Death Note the Movie
Many Otaku lover would probably at least heard of the title. It's in fact among the best storyline I read so far. I did planned to watch the movie at cinema but when I had the time to spend the showing was already over. Well never mind that, none the least I still manage to watch it at home recently and it was really great to see the character in motions (I only read and follow the manga before).
In a nutshell, it was a great movie where the actor where at the best possible to portray each characters. I do have to blame the script-writer for making Yagami Light seem to be less intelligent then L where in fact when you read the manga or watch the anime both analytical skill match each other.
The Storyline
The story kicks of with a few minutes flashback how Light obtain the Death Note in the first place, there no introduction of Ryuk's origin or any other character. Straight forward one would say that it would be hard for those who doesn't read the manga or anime to understand the real deal but still congrats cause I still believe everyone would still not be completely lost.
Light, a genius and pursue to become a policeman one day found the "Death Note" notebook, being curious like any other human being he try it out by writing a felony's name in the Death Note. In much surprise that felony die instantly (well after few seconds) and there forth he begin his crusade to eliminate criminal by killing every convicted or criminal suspect one by one.
The continues mass murder caught the public attentions, some give support to newly found justice also known as KIRA while other condemn it. At the same time, Interpol were determine to stop KIRA with the help of an infamous detective named L. Ironically, the story became more interested were no one have ever seen L as he would do his investigation in the dark.
As I mention before, L has been portrayed nicely when he use his skill to analyst every single evidence. KIRA (or Light) were also good in analyzing and coming out with strategy but I have to say his potential weren't fully shown in the story. KIRA in the other hand seem to be more an intelligent kid with no heart, he manage to kill his girlfriend in the story just to gain trust from the police to let him join the investigation. Now if I'm not mistaken he did the same in the manga but there you would be amaze by his strategy skill but here he been intentionally or unintentionally portrayed as a man with no option.
Conclusion
It's a good movie but I'm certainly were drawn back with lack of good storyline, it seem more like a cut and copy of the long original story with anything really good as a diversion. Other than that, the scene seem to be much of a typical Japanese drama instead of a full flash movie were it's totally dull. I surely hope they're not using Malaysian Cameramen for project. Lastly, I hope the second installment would be a much better result compared to this.

The storyline did follow the manga..but only point A and point B..the way to get from point A and B is so different from the manga..here are some of them:
- Raito finds the note in the middle of a street and not inside the school grounds.
- Raito is also depicted as a university student and not a high school student like in the manga.
- Raito's girlfriend is Maya, not Shiori.
- Raito didn't kill Maya (Shiori) in the manga like potrayed in the movie.
- The way Raito faced L is also far different from the manga.
- The way Ryuk met Raito is also different.
- In manga, Watari appeared after L. Not before L.
yep..so many differences..but it's fine with me because those differences are not that important..if they change the subway scene..then i'll be furious..i just hte Shiori..she's just a PINTA!!..thank god she's dead..i think the reason why she's in the movie is to show how evil Raito is by killing her..
IMO..Tatsuya Fujiwara is a farcry Raito in the manga nor the anime..his face does not have that authentic evil face like the original Raito..he's more like a cute version of Raito..haha
L on the other hand is great..almost the same like the manga..at first i saw L, just thought that he looks like the grown-up version of that Ju-On kid (Toshio)..ehehe
All in all, I love this movie..actually one of my favorite Japanese movie..if only they show more of Sayu scenes..she's so kawaii..i was like OMG, that's the cutest thing..BTW..DEATH NOTE: THE LAST NAME will be released here in Malaysia 1st Fabruary next year..sigh..
